Western Aspect is a multi-service photographic, graphic & website design, and marketing & promotions agency run by me David Harper together with my wife Claire. Where projects require it we will occasionally call upon other affiliated freelancers.

I founded Western Aspect in 2003, after twenty years in a variety of design, business & technical communication, advertising and marketing roles in industry.

My career saw me begin in a printer’s design studio and then, after university, took me via a period as a technical & copy writer – all the while learning the craft and techniques of effective graphic and information design in both print and online mediums – and led eventually to my becoming a corporate communications and brand manager for a successful medium-sized software company.

Meanwhile, as a lifelong photography enthusiast, I’ve been fortunate that my career has seen me commissioning and working alongside a number of skilled professional business photographers, from whom I learned many valuable lessons; knowledge that gave me the confidence to invest in the high quality photographic equipment necessary to achieve professional results, and begin working in this domain also.

Now, in the services offered through Western Aspect, I bring all of this experience and knowledge to bear upon every project I undertake for my clients. I believe the real strength of my service lies in this breadth of experience: I’m a photographer that understands document layout, a designer and copywriter that understands marketing, and a marketer that understands design. This enables me to deliver a comprehensive service that gets the balance of all these elements right. Moreover, having myself been responsible for managing a company's marketing budget, I understand the particular issues that face small to medium size businesses when they’re trying to build an identity and create market share, and I know how to make their marketing investment count for them.

I’m committed to building a successful business based on listening to and understanding my clients’ unique requirements, and producing the right, high quality solutions to meet them.
